Getting Around

Overview

There are three main transit systems in the City of San Francisco as well as a number of county based systems in the surrounding cities.

BART - Bay Area Rapid Transit

This is our subway system. Well, it's an above ground train in many places in the greater Bay Area but it's a subway as far as San Francisco is concerned. BART connects two of the three Bay Area airports: SFO and OAK. BART comes into the International Terminal at San Francisco airport and you can ride directly to four stations in San Francisco city itself. It is much cheaper than taking a cab from the airport! Powell St is the nearest station to the Moscone Center - a couple of blocks away. See the official BART website for more details.

MUNI - San Francisco Municipal Railway

This streetcar and bus system has 80 routes with stops within two blocks of 90% of all residences within San Francisco. See the official MUNI website for more details.
The F line which runs along Market Street to the Embarcadero is one of the best ways to get from the conference center to Fishermans Wharf. This line is unique as the street cars operating on it are restored historic cars from cities around the globe.

Buses

There are many local bus services throughout the Bay Area. Check the 511.org site discussed below for the easiest way to plan your trips.

CalTrain

This train runs between San Francisco and San Jose (BART does not connect to San Jose). See the official CalTrain website for more details.

511.org

A great resource for planning any trip on transit in the Bay Area, 511.org, provides traffic info, transit routes and information on bicycling all on one site. The Transit planner covers all of the transit systems in the bay area and is one of the best tools to get you where you need to go.
